Privacy Policy
Effective July 11, 2026
The short version
Noatery is local-first software. Your entries live on your device in a SQLite database. No account is required. Nothing leaves your device unless you opt into anonymous usage analytics.
Who we are
Noatery is made by ChainFrame Private Limited ("we", "us"). If you have questions about this policy, contact us at nitin@chainframe.com.
What data stays on your device
All of the following is stored locally in SQLite on your device and never transmitted to us:
- Entry text, timestamps, tags, and project names
- Full-text search index
- App preferences and settings
Analytics (optional, anonymous)
If analytics are enabled in the app, we collect anonymous usage events through PostHog to understand how features are used. These events include things like feature usage counts and entry count buckets. They never include entry text, tags, or any content you've written.
A random identifier (UUID) is generated per install and stored in local storage. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or device identifier.
You can opt out of analytics in Settings at any time. If analytics are disabled, no data is collected or transmitted.
Separately, this website (noatery.com) uses two cookieless analytics services: Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate traffic (page views, referrers, country), and PostHog to see which links and buttons people click — for example, how many visitors go on to the Mac App Store. Neither sets cookies, neither writes anything to your browser's storage, neither does cross-site tracking, and neither collects anything that identifies you. PostHog is configured to keep its identifier in page memory only, so it is discarded the moment you leave the page and nothing about you persists between visits. That is why this site has no consent banner.
The website analytics above are separate from the optional, opt-in in-app analytics described earlier. Both happen to use PostHog, but the app collects nothing unless you turn analytics on in Settings, while the website measures anonymous, aggregate traffic only.
In-app purchases
Noatery offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock the full version after a free trial. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never see or store your payment details, card, or Apple ID. Whether you have unlocked the app is determined on your device using Apple's StoreKit; that entitlement is stored locally and is not sent to us.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app may schedule reminders on your device — for example, when your free trial is ending, a daily recap, or when one of your AI agents logs work. These are generated and scheduled locally; no notification content is transmitted to us. Notifications are optional and can be turned off in Settings or your system settings at any time.
What we do not collect
- No account registration or login
- No advertising or ad tracking
- No crash reporting
- No location, contacts, health, financial, or biometric data
- No third-party data sharing or selling
Deleting your data
Because your data is stored locally, deleting the app removes your data from that device.
Children's privacy
Noatery is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at noatery.com/privacy with the effective date shown above.
